Chapter 4
Seven Golden Rules
The third essential element in Back to
Basics Discipline is "Seven Golden Rules". These rules are
used in connection with the application of punishment - in any form.
They are the backbone of the entire Back to Basics Discipline
program. These rules will ensure that you will be teaching the
lessons, earning the respect and becoming the effective parent you should
be. Following the seven golden rules means less actual punishment in
the overall scheme of things. It is the difference between just
wasting your time, going through the motions, making a lot of noise and
putting up with a lot of nonsense - and actually getting results.
This chapter contains a complete
detailed explanation of each rule and gives real life examples.
Knowing how to apply discipline in the context of real events makes it
easier for anyone to grasp the purpose of each rule and thereby empowers
parents with confidence.

Chapter 5
Absolute No-Nos
The fourth essential element in Back
to Basics Discipline, "Absolute No-Nos", is about disciplining
children for the right reasons. There are certain behaviors that
rob children of the ability to develop traits necessary to form good
character. A discipline program that includes a "no
tolerance" policy toward these behaviors is the key to success.
Responsibility, respect, self-control,
honesty and compassion are the fundamental character traits that lead to
living good lives, being good people and doing good things - the
long-term goals of discipline. In this chapter the author
describes how disobedience, disrespect, temper, dishonesty and
aggression should be dealt with, and if dealt with effectively, how the
gifts of responsibility, respect, self-control, honesty and compassion
are instilled in children.
